The Golden Globe Awards® are given annually by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association® to honor the year’s best achievements in motion pictures and television. The HFPA was founded in the 1940s and its members are Los Angeles-based journalists and photographers who represent international newspapers, magazines, radio, television and other media in over 50 countries with hundreds of millions of readers, listeners and viewers worldwide. Celebrating the 78th Anniversary of the Golden Globes in 2021, the event has become one of the most respected and influential awards shows worldwide and the third most watched awards show annually on television. As well as being one of the few to recognize achievements in both motion pictures and television, the Golden Globes Awards® are famously known as "Hollywood's Party of the Year."
In addition to honoring achievements in motion pictures and television, the HFPA is a significant supporter of the arts. Each year, the HFPA and its charitable trust donate millions of dollars to entertainment-related charities and scholarship programs.
